Investment DictionaryAsset Management
Asset management is a process when assets acquired, monitored and sold on purpose to achieve optimal investment results. There is no strong difference between investment management and asset management. However, asset management might be used more for all investment including non-financial investments when investment management is more applicable to financial assets, but this rule is not a general one.
There are many functions in asset management: market research, asset allocation decisions, securities picking, securities or other assets trading, analysis of particular securities, news covering and many other depending on asset classes that are included in managed portfolio.
Good results of asset management require the most professional managers and even the most of those fail to beat the market if benchmark is well chosen. Also asset management may include management of company’s assets including financial and non-financial assets.
