Private investors are individuals that are investing in to some assets for investment purpose. (1) There are two main types of investors: private investors and institutional investors (business investor). Also there might be additional secondary types of investors as governmental investors, municipal investors or other. Private investor mostly refers to retail investor.

(2) However, private investor might have also another meaning which comes from private investment. A lot of such investments are completed in private markets and the perfect example of such private investor can be private equity fund, which to be more exact is not a private investor but a private equity investor.
